I worked at GEICO for over 2 years and let me tell you from first hand experience my title says it all ... GEICO SUCKS!
There is a very strict attendance policy and there is no good reason to be absent. A coworker had to postpone cancer treatments (chemotheraphy) because she ran out of FMLA time and was informed that if she fell below 97% it could result in termination (then she would be responsible 100% for the cost of her health insurance and treatments ... which she could not afford). This person was fighting for her life and was in constant fear of losing her job ... and yet GEICO promotes themselves as a caring, family environment - WHAT A JOKE!
I was a material witness in a criminal case and was threatened to be fired if I missed work and went to court and testified. It was necessary for me to make arrangements with the DA to move the trial to night court. In fairness to GEICO, I was hired with the understanding that attendance was 100% for the first six months; however, how could I have possibly predicted that I would be involved in a criminal court case? There was no flexibility, compassion, or understanding when I made my supervisor aware of the situation.
A structured environment does not accurately describe what you would be getting yourself into. I had a supervisor come into the bathroom and literally ask me what I was doing. Apparently, my vomitting was taking too long. I was told that I was signed out of the phone for "personal" too long ... a whopping 6 minutes (bearing in mind the bathroom was alteast a minute walk from my desk).
These are just a few (I have many more) reasons why I would not recommend working at GEICO. I have no respect for this organization. Shortly, after I started I inquired why the turnover rate was so high and never really got an answer ... guess I found out on my own!
