So I arrive in Buffalo around noon on Saturday, and I need to get to Toronto before 5pm (I'm running in the marathon on Sunday and the race packet pick-up thing closes at 5).

The few shuttles I've seen go to Niagara Falls, one cab offers a ride to downtown Toronto for $175, other than that, nothing. I usually fly through Detroit and in the past take rail service to Toronto, but the airfare to Buffalo was substantially cheaper. Only thing is, I've never had to coordinate a ride from Buffalo to Toronto! I know it's not too far, and I know a lot of shuttles go from the Niagara Falls casinos, but they won't take people like myself (with luggage!).

Any advice? Even from a city with less than 100k people, Duluth has six shuttles a day to Mpls/St. Paul Airport (165 miles away). I figured there would be something from Buffalo to Toronto...

Duluth to the Cities doesn't deal with trying to take a bus load of people across an international border.

I believe Niagara Air Bus runs a shuttle to & from TO but I also think its pretty expensive (at least $150).

Amtrak runs daily to TO but with you needing to be there by 5pm I don't think that will work (1st train gets into TO around 4:30pm next one is like 7:30pm).

You may also consider looking into Greyhound as they have several runs/day to TO but I have no idea what times they run.

Other than that a car rental might be your best option.

Why not just rent a car? Seems like the easiest solution.

Megabus has regular trips from Buffalo to Toronto. $18 each way, but I don't think the times would work for you, and you'd have to get from the airport to downtown Buffalo.

If you could get to Niagara Falls, there's a ViaRail train from Niagara Falls to Toronto leaving at 2:06pm, arriving in Toronto at 4:06pm. The fare is $38.

By the way, I'm from Duluth, grew up there.

Check out: Buffalo International Airport - BNIA - Ground Transportation, scroll down to Canadian ground transportation for some options.

Also, GO Transit and VIA rail both serve NF, Ont., but I dont think VIA will work to TO for you. I included it if it might work for your return trip. If you can get an affordable cab from the NFIA to cross the border.
