WOW! How much there already? I am near Clarence/Williamsville...........we are getting hit but school is a go! Better crank my heat lol... 3-5 inches more coming today!
How wide spread was this? I'm in Hamburg & my power was never out? We have maybe an inch of snow on the ground & all the kids are in school. The worst part right now is the wind.

Suggestion to all who complain about power outages: Buy and learn how to safely use a generator appropriate to what your needs are. You also don't really need one if the outages are short. We call short under 6 hours ( the time the sump will fill and flood). During the October Surprise? We were glad we had one (for over a week) and ran it just for the minimum needed ( about once every 4-6 hours to heat nicely and drain well: no spoiled food, no water in the basement and not cold -- our house is wired to be able to use the generator for the furnace as well.
what does a generator cost that would work for 2800 sq ft?
Are you going to run the entire house? Consider one of the automatic gas generators; a few people here have them [ Generac ] Very pricy, but they go on automatically and use your natural gas.
If you want a small gasoline generator, go somewhere like Tractor Supply and ask what size you need. (They know what they are talking about -- big box and hardware stores might not) Our house is about 1/3 the size of yours and we use a small gasoline generator -- but we had our electric panel rewired by an electrician so we can shut off the street electric and go on generator power alone ( so you will not blow the street elec. when it comes back on). We shut all elec off, turn off street power, plug in the generator and only turn on the sump, fridge and heat. We also do not do it unless the outage is to where the sump is filled ( but we also have a backup pump on that in case we are not home) or it is over 4 hours. When you have it on, the house can be heated to toasty warm, the fridge gets cold and the sump drains. For us, that was 30 min about 4-6X/day during the Oct. Surprise.
If you want everything to run all the time in every power out? Look into the things like Generac . I only see that one brand here. I would call National Fuel and ask about the whole house gas emergency generators.
Ddi you see it on the news? The outage was caused by vandals cutting poles.
