I know Benderson Development controls the village, but what a joke it is to shop there. The surrounding communities all used that Tops.

I know the EA has a strict building code, but come on.

Is Jubilee no longer open? East aurora used to have 3 grocery stores in town, but Quality Markets shut down.

However the surrounding areas like Elma, Marilla, Wales, Colden and West Falls all come into town. Has nothing to do with the population.

Yes, that is why EA can support such a large Tops while other villages of the same size such as Newfane or Medina can not.

If the local market could support more there would be more. The others are gone for a reason. Other chains have not setup shop for a reason. You can be sure they've checked. Most chains of any type have staff and departments that do nothing else but scout for new locations and do studies to see which locations would make a worthwhile investment return.

Totally disagree. Tops has a strangled hold on East Aurora and won't allow Wegman's to come in there. And how did they get the Tops built with the existing parking area.

I don't want to hear that the planners approved it either.

LOL the big Tops is keeping Wegmans out conspiracy theory. The fact is, as stated by Wegmans they will NOT build any more stores in Upstate NY PERIOD. They feel that they have more than enough stores in NY and building more would only cannibalize existing stores. They are concentrating on new markets primarily in Mass., Pa and Virginia. They most recently stated this publicly in the Lockport newspaper about a month and a half ago.

Also earlier from the Buffalo News:

Updated: July 7, 2011, 6:26 AM
LOCKPORT—Grass-roots campaigners trying to persuade Wegmans to build a supermarket in Lockport announced Wednesday they have obtained 5,000 petition signatures, halfway to their goal.

However, the “We Want Wegmans” campaign has received no encouragement from Wegmans.

“I think that’s so impressive and very flattering, but there haven’t been any changes in our plans to focus our growth in our new markets outside New York,” said Theresa Jackson, Wegmans manager of consumer affairs.

Wegmans looked on Olean road, outside the village at one time.
