The NYS Enhanced License also works for Mexico and I think parts of the Caribbean or some of the islands down there. They're getting so out of hand. Soon you'll need a passport to get down your own street!
The thing about a passport -- if I just feel like going to Ft. Erie or Niagara on the lake, chances are the passport is home. The enhanced isn't. So, we have both.

The latest information, from the US State Department is that only 33 percent of US citizens hold a valid, current, passport, while in Canada that percentage is more than doubled, at 69 percent. Obviously, Canadians do more international travelling, and it is reflected in the number who have a passport.

Already complaining about New York State. Wasn't it a short time ago you were complaining about the south and so happy to be back in New York State?

Those requirements aren't made up by NYS, they are made by the U.S. State Department as part of the EDL program.

You can also get a Passport Card instead and keep it in your wallet, or join the NEXUS program.

Second, I have gone to them AFTER my daughter with friends. So sorry you have a major issue with strip clubs. I bring them up only because they are well known to be great in Canada. NY is devoid of good ones because of nudity laws.
I wasn't the person who messaged you, but who cares if one visits a strip club? The people working there need to make a living, too. Better to be a stripper than working on a corner for sex! Don't like strip clubs? Don't go to one! Really it's that simple. I've heard the laws regarding strip clubs are very different in Canada and Europe. Only in the US are we soooooo freaking uptight about nudity. For crying out loud, we're all born naked!

Actually, I wasn't complaining about NYS. I was complaining about the amount of work involved in getting an enhanced license. Something that NYS really has no control over as the Feds are the ones who determine what documentation is needed.

Never said I wasn't happy to be back in NYS. I have still have qualms about the South and my significant other was there last week. He had the same qualms and was very happy to be home again as well.

A person isn't allowed to complain about something? I'll make note of that since you seem to complain quite a bit on here.

.
I understand what you said. However, the enhanced license/ID is nuts! My passport required proof of birth (nationality), address (license) and name (*women have married names, so I took my marriage license) and 2 pics. I don't remember needing a lot more. I went to the Post Office and got the pics taken and they sent it in; got the Passport in a few weeks. I took all of the above for the enhanced license and still needed additional documentation of proof I lived at the same address! It was bizarre. My hubby was getting his at the same time and the lady told us we needed different proofs of address -- we could not both use the same utility bill! (I figured that; I had multiple proofs) We were also registering a car at the time, for at our own address... I wonder if it is just the people who work in the different places?

When I asked about getting an Enhanced license instead of the regular NYS one, I was told it is far simpler to get a license and then upgrade to the Enhanced. It costs more, but it is easier for some odd reason.

For some reason, the passport system has been handled differently that the Enhanced License system. The Feds determine both so I don't understand why the difference. Maybe because you already needed a pile of paperwork to get a license? Or because it's the government and nothing with them is ever easy or makes any sense?

They made it seem like I was pushing strip clubs because I brought them up twice so far on here without it being mentioned. So sorry! It's one of the pluses to me. Far better than NY. People make the trip for them. And in regards to my daughter? If she wants to work at a strip club, go ahead. Just don't get caught up in drugs and sex work. Go, make your money, then move on like all strippers do. And you are totally right! We are all born naked but we must look at the body as some disgusting thing.

Not to mention that strippers are the smart ones. They can basically dance on you (which most do at clubs with guys for free) and you buy them drinks, fawn over them, and give them money then leave. Seems like a pretty nice job to me (barring all the trolls you have to deal with).
