Several region-wide campaigns in industries such as manufacturing, the trades and software are aimed at challenges in the workforce pipeline.
But the same can’t be said for biomedical and life sciences, despite the fact that the industry boasts some of Buffalo’s largest employers and fastest-growing companies.
Enter the Buffalo Biomedical Career Fair, scheduled to take place from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 20 in the Zebro Conference Room, which is in Roswell Park Comprehensive Care Center’s Center for Genetics and Pharmacology facility at 701 Ellicott St.
The event specifically targets people with degrees that range from bachelor’s to Ph.Ds, seeking to connect them to local companies that do things like drug development or medical diagnostics. ZeptoMetrix, for instance, is seeking to fill lab positions that have a range of requirements. Athenex Inc. has been hiring rapidly at its three Western New York locations. Thermo Fisher is growing so fast on Grand Island that it recently signed a long-term lease to its 40,000-square-foot headquarters in additional space on Grand Island, to go along with its existing factory on Whitehaven Road. Thermo Fisher’s traditional factory neighbors another large biotech employer, Fresenius Kabi, which employs 1,000 people locally.
