I am moving to Buffalo and will be working at the VA hospital there. I have a 4 year old kid who will be joining Pre K
From the forum discussions it seems like getzville, amherst and east amherst( are they different?) and williamsville are considered to be relatively safe. Is that correct?
Are there any child friendly ( for me meaning a playground even if it is small and a good preschool in the vicinity even if it is private ) apartment complexes/town homes that you would suggest. If it is close to any of the libraries it would be even better as they may have story times.
I am north Indian and if there are indian neighbours it would be helpful but is not necessarily a priority.
Thank you in advance!

Buffalo and Erie County Public Library System
Amherst has a library called Audobon; it is large and newer. However, Williamsville has a nice little one on Main St. in the village.

SUNYAB ( University at Buffalo) used to have a preschool. I imagine it was certified. There are many nursery pre-k, but I do not know if they are certified. You might look up the parochial schools.

If you are working at the VA hospital, the University is right across the road - and the pre-k was there. It would also be closer to Williamsville Library.

Rentals are another thing. If you want a safer, child friendly area, you will need to move farther east or north. Apartments close to UB are often students.

Daycare at UB is not easy to get into, it serves UB faculty/student as priority. Usually, there is a long waiting list and it takes about 1 year to get accepted.

Apparently both Amherst and Williamsville Central have free universal pre-k programs:
Williamsville Universal Pre-k: PreK
Amherst Universal Pre-k: PreK

I couldn't find out whether Sweethome did from their website.

Amherst has a pretty large Indian population for the area, so you should feel comfortable there.

Apartments to consider since these both have playgrounds on-site:
Windsong
Renaissance

search for "apartments in amherst, ny" to find many others.

Hi, I am originally from North India as well & recently moved to this area from Charlotte, NC. Have a 5 year old kid. Williamsville & East Amherst are the 2 places you should consider keeping in mind your needs including Good schools. I stay at Renaissance apartments & its just great. Area around Renaissance is amazing as well. Mostly all restaurants & grocery stores are walkable. Extremely kids friendly.

Inbox me if want to connect.
All the best.

Thank you so much friends for all of the replies! I appreciated all of your comments. No wonder it is called the city of good neighbours! After reading your posts I am going to try for rennaisance or Windsong.

Here are some listings of some day care services in Williamsville: Childcare Centers, Day care

Here's a list of pre-schools in the Williamsville area: Pre Schools

PS: About half of the population in the Buffalo area is nominally Catholic, and there remains an extensive network of Catholic elementary and high schools although the numbers have diminished in recent years. Many pre schools are associated with Catholic elementary schools, all of which welcome non Catholic students for both pre-k and regular grades, which has been a hallmark of the Buffalo diocese Catholic schools for decades. While religion is taught in the schools, it's not the center of the curriculum and schools are sensitive to respecting the beliefs of non-Catholics who attend.
