Just curious, but knowing that Wheatfield has been the fastest growing town in WNY, has the growth continued or has it slowed down within the last year or two? For instance, in 1980, the town had 9,609 people. By 2010, it had 18,117 people.
"Keep the Fields in Wheatfield" is the old saying......in regards to the growth of the town
I drive through there every other day.....the growth has continued, but it has slowed down significantly. The Balloon can only blow up so far.
Still, it's impressive how Wheatfield turned into one of the more wealthier towns in the region. It's not quite Clarence, but it's a great place to live.
Off topic, but I never realized how close the old summit park mall in Wheatfield, on the border of wheatfield and Niagara Falls was close to the love canal area.......you can easily walk there.
I drove through love canal looking for pokemon.....ironically there were none, so that part of the game is surprisingly accurate lol.
I also never realized that the Summit Park Mall still has some open stores like Sears and Bon Ton
There was a fair amount of dumping, kind of everywhere...
Sorry, but that's untrue, and you know it. This is more of your typical anti-suburban nonsense.
Most of Niagara County, outside of Niagara Falls, Lockport, and a few other towns was farmland from the time the area was first settled until the 1960s. The southern part of Niagara Falls, especially along the river, was the center of the chemical industry, and that's why almost all of the hazardous waste sites are located in the southwestern part of Niagara County, most notably between North Tonawanda and the Falls. Companies didn't have to bother to haul their chemical wastes long distances to official dumps in the "good old days". If they didn't just dump stuff in the nearest river, they just dumped the barrels in some unused back lot.
