Look I understand that sometimes WNY is overhyped, but it isn't as doom and gloom as you make it out to be. It's gone from rapid decline to stable; considering where it was when I left in the 1990's, that is an improvement.
I think the overhyped aspect is fairly recent and is really in relation to past decades versus people making it out to be some promised land. There is just no such thing.

Also, I don't know how a couple of posts about jobs not relevant to the OP's needs helps her.

I had a little experience and applied for an accounting position several years ago and it paid 26k which I found out about after I applied. I knew someone else who worked in accounting there and they made 15 an hour. I'm going to guess you are getting rejections from M&T because of the salary. I knew people who worked at citi and they all liked it. The job market is tough in buffalo and nothing like dfw, which you mentioned. There is a lot of competition and the pay is generally not on scale with other cities. I think about moving back but I don't think I would ever make in buffalo what I make in fort worth, which is in the range you mentioned. Have you tried working with any recruiters? Buffalo is a city with a great heart, but when it comes to jobs, the struggle is real.
Yes. After further research and FINALLY getting a call from someone at M&T, I found out the position they call Financial Analyst Investor Reporting, pays just shy of 33k. No thanks. Sad, really. But he basically told me I am way over qualified and some of their VPs dont carry the same salary as me..and im no VP. I am just an experienced analyst.

So you need a connection to get into a place, that's just the way it works here.
I have applied there. Very closely related to my field..to no avail. Can you be my connection?? Lol

So i just returned from a 4 day trip to town, had 2 interviews. Both are likely going to offer, but pay is 40k if Im lucky. Both were found via local recruiters. One found me and the other I reached out too.
I am still waiting on Citi to get back to me. Phone interview with my prospective direct mgr and colleauge was 2 wks ago with holiday in between. Lasted 1.5 hrs...and i felt like I nailed it. Holding on to hope since they did say they would take a few wks, but...my hopes are dwindling as time goes on. That was an AVP position that would have been right up my alley as far as experience and growth.

I have an app pending for Carrier Educational Center, no idea on pay yet, but its school district treasurer. Also something pending with United Health..but very early stages.

Most recruiters have called me but they are looking for candidates to fill mostly 15/hr jobs.

Someone...please...help! Lol im telling you, my experience is damning me. I really do need a connection, but my fiance has connections in all the wrong fields.

Have you tried looking at sodexo at all? They have corporate headquarters in Williamsville. I worked there for a few years. Back when I worked there, senior accountants made in the 48 to 56 range. The next two tiers up are accounting specialists and analysts. I'm not sure what they make but it is definitely more than seniors. It may not be exactly in your industry but it could be a good way to get you up there and making more than 40k. It is pretty frustrating that the salaries there in some fields is not in line with other cities, and on top of that there is a state income tax which takes another nice bite out of your paycheck. There is also bcbs dt, and I know they have financial analyst positions. No idea on salary. Don't give up. Something will come your way. It just takes a little longer there.

I applied at BCBS, no word yet. Did not try Sodexo but will look tonight thank you!!

I have focused heavily on Citi, HSBC, Key Bank, and M&T (which I have now taken out of the equation after seeing their salary ranges).
