Casey, Before I moved from Buffalo in late 1980s, I vividly recall the promise of NFTA at that time to extend the light rail to the north campus of UB after completing the first main section. The first main section was completed in 1986 after 3 years of making the downtown a complete mess. And then...no more work on the rail. The extension(s) will NEVER be started.

Your right and even if they had the funding for a UB North extension, Amherst will file lawsuits to block it and stop it because they don't want to give easy excess to the city people to come out to Amherst.
Remember the proposed Tonawanda Line, They even purchased old Cleveland Trolley cars that were suppose to be used and that never happened either.

Forget Cuomo. Start bypasssing him. Focus on MAGA. Make a list of businesses that reduced their footprint in your community. If possible find out if they have moved their manufacturing or other operations overseas. Even if you don't, write to them and politely and invite them to invest more in your community. Follow-up every few weeks and inquire on progress. If you're bold enough, ask to meet them in person.

Way To late for that. Buffalo & WNY's reputatation is already well known as declining and has shrinking markets, and is going backwards, insane regulation's, high utlities cost, Poor infrastructure , super high taxes, and having a heavy unionized work force. Governmemt Corruption with IBM & Solar City probes and having long very harsh cold icey & snow filled winters and if that didn't already scare them away, having 2 Control Boards for both the City of Buffalo Control Board & Erie County Control Board going on 10 Years sure will.

Extending the Metro line to UB North?

Hmm... wonder if the ridership will justify the cost and inconvenience of the construction.

Is there a pathway to increasing jobs while also not increasing much in housing costs?

Good question and I'm not sure if that is the case, unless people can find the type of housing they want in a distant location within the area.
