How many chain restaurants do well here. This isn't Southern California.

Bulldoze the thing. I went there 30 years ago shopping with my mom. It used to be a real treat to ride the carousel and go shopping with my parents or friends. Us kids would sometimes skip school and walk to the Boulevard Mall to go to the video game store.

For years there were some decent stores in there. Went back last year and it has fallen quite a bit.

I say bulldoze the thing and put in a giant lawn, and a few lawn chairs. People will flock to it, the media will stay it is the best thing since sliced bread. They can call it Boulevard-Side.

When they close the mall, look for Amherst to raise property taxes more.

It will most likely not close. Its in a good area and some shortsighted decisions like closing the food court for a Dick's was a bad move IMHO. The Boulevard Mall used to have a Sattlers, Neisner's and an Acme Supermarket if I remember correctly. It has really suffered from the Galleria opening as has Eastern Hills and McKinley Mall. Its prime real estate and Northtown Plaza across Sheridan will be poaching some of their better stores soon. Sears closing was no surprise. The area around the mall is fine with Wegmans, Premier and the aforementioned new revitalized Northtown Plaza. Its close to UB and maybe a new owner will start a shuttle. Only time will tell.

Easter Hills Mills is also struggling and is now mostly dollars stores and lots of vacant stores.
Walden Galleria was opened in 1989 and is soon losing another anchor Sears, and they never were able
to fill another vacant anchor BON TON and they tour it down and replaced it with a movie theater.

Eastern Hills has been struggling for decades. Last time I was there, there was 1 dollar store. It will soon be repurposed as a "lifestyle center"

The entire Sears and Kmart chains have issues:

Is the 2nd Half of 2017 when Sears Finally Kicks the Bucket? | Wolf Street

As for the Bon Ton Closing:

"With the closure of The Bon-Ton in 2006, plans were once again announced to expand the Walden Galleria. Under these new plans, The Bon-Ton's former store was demolished for a concourse composed of more than 250,000 square feet (23,000 m2) of new retail space. The mall's existing theater complex, which was located next to The Bon-Ton, was also demolished for a newer, larger theater complex, which opened at the end of May 2008.[31][32] Barnes & Noble was planned for the former theater space, but never opened. Several new restaurants, including The Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Chang's China Bistro and The Melting Pot, were also added, as were new tenants such as The Walking Company, Oakley, Urban Outfitters, Sephora and Coach.[32][33] On January 14, 2011, two new stores were announced to join the lineup at the Walden Galleria-- H&M and Anthropologie, the latter of which opened up in a small location next to the former.[34] It was announced in 2011 that Michael Kors would also open at the mall.[35]"
