I don't know, as when I was growing up, we had kids attend the same public HS from other districts. They also had to sit out from participating in extra curricular activities for a year, from what I remember. I've done research into this and most districts will only allow this for relocating families. Of course, at the time this was for districts adjoining Buffalo.
