Chez. While I am not familiar with Angola I am aware of many NY communities having trouble with the corruption at city hall and in their police departments. In fact I lived in one of those towns. It's about 60 miles NE of the area you are considering. Three cops out of a force of ten were under indictment for drug dealing. And previously two of the cops were arrested and convicted for burglarizing local homes when people were on vacation. Hope this helps...

I'm glad they got caught. They weren't that smart. They were looking for free food, I guess.

I also am looking to move to Western NY. What are the run down areas besides parts of Buffalo? I like the area, and partcularly liked the Evans-angola area. I was looking at a property near the Tops Market. Any advice??

They call that region the south towns. Hamburg is the major village. Most people I have talked to that live in that region seem to like it. Post what ever else you find out for me. I'm looking at that area also! I have heard that they get more lake effect down south.
