I'm from the Chicagoland area and lemon rice soup is a staple in every local diner/family restaurant. It's nowhere to be found in downstate NY. I was wondering if you have it in Buffalo since it's got more of a Midwest vibe.
Also, do you really call pop, pop? I heard you do. I hope you do!
Lemon rice soup is a Greek thing. You should be able to find it at a Greek restaurant.
Buffalo says "pop." It follows the Midwest in this and a lot of other cultural idiosyncrasies.
Yeah, most of the diners in the Chicagoland area have Greek or Polish owners. None of the diners here have it. I'm not sure who owns most of them here. They have matzo ball soup instead but I don't think it's Jewish owned. I really miss the soup and I can never get it to taste right on my own. Hopefully, I'll find a few places that have it!
I remember having it at the Towne Restaurant on Allen many times. Pop is used frequently here. Whn I went to school in Boston they called it tonic, pronounced (tawnik).
Personally, as a 31-year-old Buffalo lifer, this is my first time hearing of it.
It's served at almost every family owned Greek place in WNY.
