Again OP, if you are looking for areas that fit your criteria, you have more than one choice that is a relatively short drive from the potential place of employment.

Also, if it is about a shopping mall, Lancaster is a short drive to the biggest of them all in regards to Walden Galleria. Plenty of shopping nearby and it isn't away from the heavy snow belt south of the city.

Lancaster, are you kidding? There is nothing there. Proximity to the Galleria is no reason to live there.

OP, Lancaster is a good SD, with a walkable village and a short commute to your potential employer. So, I wouldn't discount it.

Honestly you can't go wrong with any of the outer suburbs.
Hamburg-huge suburban town with an older village center. Middle class suburbia at its finest. Good SD. LOTS of snow. Growing at a pretty good clip.
Orchard Park-Next to Hamburg. Excellent school district. 2nd most affluent town in the area. LOTS of snow again. Smaller but really nice village center. Growing rather quickly.
East Aurora/Aurora-A little more rural, but village of East Aurora is awesome. Excellent school district. LOTS of snow. Slow growing due to NIMBY attitude from residents.
Elma-Ruralish-Exurban, no real village/walkalbe center. Good school district. LOTS of snow. Growing at a healthy rate. Kinda far from shopping centers, but highway cuts through town.
Lancaster-Suburban with a run-down village center. Good school district. Very quickly growing, but lots of traffic along with that. Snow is more the farther south in the town you go (some storms south lancaster will get feet while north lancaster will get a dusting)
Clarence-Exurban, not much of a village center. Extremely quickly growing, lots of shopping options nearby on Transit Road. Not really direct highway to city. Less snow. Excellent school district. Most affluent town in WNY.
Amherst-Massive suburb. Williamsville is a great village. Williamsville Schools are excellent and include wealthy East Amherst. Snyder is an older area in the good Amherst SD. Lots of traffic, lots of shopping, less snow. University of Buffalo is the flagship SUNY school, so a college vibe in the town.

Thanks all! I was actually considering Hamburg as well just because of the new builds ( Ryan) that I saw. If my husband moves forward with the job we will definitely be driving up to check the area out.

I live in Hamburg and overall it's a pretty good place to live. Ignore the comments about there being nothing to do, that's nonsense! A wide variety of restaurants, shopping and lots of outdoor activities here (hiking, beach, skiing is only 25 minutes away). Downtown is only 15-20 minutes away and traffic here is much better than the Northtowns. The Village of Hamburg is cute and I would recommend it over the Town, but if you are looking for a new build they are only found in the Town, though many are rehabbing the old Village homes. Lots of snow here in the winter, no getting around that, but it's not so bad. Wide range of housing prices here, all the way from 120K starter homes to houses on the lake 1 million plus, but most are in the 150-350k range. The Hamburg school district is a bit better than Frontier but it's still acceptable. I would definitely check the Hamburg area out.
