I was recently in a city that puts any US city to shame as far as walkability. In 5-10 minutes there were 40 restaurants, 10 bakeries, 5 pastry shops, 15-20 beauty salons, 5 hardware stores, 10 pet stores, 15 variety stores carrying almost everything, 10 butchers, 5 fruit and vegetable stores, all within easy walking distance. The term "walkability" gets tossed around frivolously. As I said before what good is "walkability" if 6 months out of the year the weather is too cold to go out, especially for seniors.

"As for walkability, while weather can be a concern in the area depending on the time of year, it is at least a more viable option in comparison to many areas. Driving everywhere after a certain age would likely get tiresome and having an option to not use your vehicle to go places I’d say would be nice, regardless of one’s age. This is why you get some retirees/empty nesters that move into walkable neighborhoods. An example of this, just so people don’t think I’m making that up: https://www.localsyr.com/news/local-...use/1152003308"

Showing one couple that moved into downtown Syracuse is not necessarily indicative of the majority. Most seniors move to a warmer climate so they don't risk falling and breaking their hip on the ice. As a senior, I don't mind driving especially since there is no snow or ice here, ever. Driving in WNY was a nightmare especially in the winter when you risk an accident and the stress was dreadful. So to answer your post, in the overall scheme of things, walkability means nothing if you can't walk 6 months of the year. Do you personally know that couple? Do they go South or travel in the winter?

Read what I bolded in black again...That is what I was referring to.

Also, a couple of related articles on a national level: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/as...ver-2018-10-27

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/im...ger-2017-10-30

So, this is a sentiment that is increasing regardless of location.
