Erie County Executive Polonicarz has just announced their raising Erie County property taxes and is giving himself a pay raise, Its going to be a triple hit of property taxes .County, School, & Town, City & Village property taxes are all going up too, Lancaster & Amherst also just announced their raising property taxes too.

The rate is going from 4.84 to 4.72 per 1000. That is a reduction.

There has been a lot of reassessment which will raise the overall tax bill. They can drop the rate because there will be more, higher appraised values to tax. For example: my old house I sold, had the appraised value go from 190k to 260k an increase of 37.8%. Even though I sold it for 240k, the appraised value has not gone down.

Sounds like you made out very well then.

The end result is property taxes are going $100's of dollars again!! Only in Buffalo & Erie County do property taxes go up every single year for the last 50 years in the row

Not really, I paid 180k and put in 60k worth of improvements and sold it for 240k, 11 years later. After commissions I lost money. I did make out well leaving NYS and moving to Florida though.

That's too bad. I live in Florida as well, but my wife and I have lived in New York. We actually came out ahead in New York due to the higher salaries.

Where in NY? I made out OK in previous real estate transactions 30+ years ago but the recent ones were a loss.
