Most are quite small and the larger ones are either undoing a merger or merging. A lot are from the Tri-state area and California. Cazenovia is near you and closing after 200 years.

Nazareth becomes teach-out partner for soon-defunct Medaille University

Nazareth University has been named a teach-out partner for Medaille University, the Buffalo-based institution that will cease operations in August.

Under the teach-out agreement, students at Medaille will be able to complete their fields of study at Nazareth with no transfer, admission or application fees and at a cost equal to, or less, than they currently pay at Medaille.

The teach-out program impacts current Medaille undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standings, as well as first-year students who planned to enroll in the fall.

All academic credits earned at Medaille will be accepted, as will grades for those classes. Also, general education requirements met at Medaille will be accepted as completed at Nazareth.

Medaille recently announced it would close because of declining enrollment and outstanding liabilities. A proposed integration with Trocaire College did not materialize.

“Learning that an institution of higher education is closing is always upsetting, and our hearts go out to everyone at Medaille, especially the students enrolled there or planning to attend there next year,” Nazareth President Beth Paul said in a news release.

“When we learned that these students will need to find themselves new university homes, we knew that Nazareth — which has many similar academic programs and a location less than 75 miles from Medaille — could be a viable option. In addition, our mission of fostering integrated learning through action and reflection, educating whole persons guided by empathy, committed to equity, and prepared to lead innovation for our time is likely to resonate with many Medaille students. Given all of these factors, we immediately connected with Medaille University to help.”

Visit the Nazareth website for more information on the admissions process.

Said interim Medaille President Lori Quigley: “A teach-out partner institution provides as seamless a transfer process for students as possible. Medaille University is incredibly appreciative of the partnership it has formed with Nazareth to assist our students in this challenging situation.”

Want to buy a college campus? The former Medaille University property is for sale: https://buffalonews.com/news/local/b...bc7254099.html

"Interested in buying a college campus?

The 14-acre campus of the defunct former Medaille University in Buffalo is going up for sale.

The listing didn’t set a minimum price, but the preference is to sell the property in one piece, rather than to split it up.

An entity representing bondholders and remaining administration for Medaille, which abruptly closed its doors at the end of the last academic year because of acute financial problems, has hired CBRE Upstate NY to handle the sale of the 86-year-old school’s North Buffalo real estate, located at 24 Agassiz Circle.

The sale had been expected, since the school no longer exists and doesn’t need the physical space.

But it does need significant proceeds from the sale, because the school still owes more than $41 million in debt. That includes $22 million in bonds issued through the Buffalo & Erie County Industrial Land Development Corp. and $18.5 million in lease obligations for its new sports complex on Elk Street, according to reports by debt-ratings firm S&P Global.

CBRE did not identify the individuals or group who hired it, referring to the entity as The Institution Formerly Known as Medaille University. But that group now controls the former school’s website as well.

“We’ve got a team of folks that have hired us, that are working together to dispose of the campus,” said Shana Stegner, partner and managing director of brokerage services for CBRE’s Buffalo office, and the lead broker on the sale.

The campus features seven buildings and accompanying land along Humboldt Parkway and the Scajaquada Expressway, within the Delaware Park and Front Park system, across from Parkside Avenue.

“It really is a beautiful campus,” Stegner said. “It’s got a lot going for it.”

The campus includes:

- The Kevin J. Sullivan Campus Center, with dining facilities, a fitness center and two basketball courts

- The four-story Main Building, with a 250-seat auditorium, classrooms and offices

- The two-story Downey Science Building, with classrooms and new lab space

- Huber Hall, a two-story structure with classrooms, offices and a library

- The Admissions Building, which is a historic residence that was converted into offices. “It’s a super cool building,” Stegner said. “There’s some really neat features in it.”

- The North Residence Hall, a three-story dormitory

- The South Residence Hall, a dormitory with five floors

Stegner said CBRE is working to pull together marketing materials, which must be approved by the group, but hopes to “go out to market within the next week or so.” She said CBRE plans to conduct a managed “call for offers,” akin to an auction, with a fixed deadline for bids.

“We’ve got a lot of interested parties that we’ve been in contact with,” including several that toured the campus over the summer and in recent weeks, she said. The interest includes a combination of local and out-of-town buyers, and ranges from educational reuse to redevelopment.

“We’ve had multiple different users and use types interested in the property already,” she said. “We’ve reached out to all the interested parties that have expressed interest and let them know what our process is going to be, and hopefully they still have interest.

“I’m excited about the opportunity,” Stegner added. “I am pleased with the interest so far, so as soon as we’re able to get it out to the market, not only here but outside the area, my guess is we’ll have more interest.”

Local school negotiating to acquire former Medaille University campus: https://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/...Pos=1#cxrecs_s

"The Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School, also known as BuffSci, is in negotiations to acquire the former Medaille University campus at 24 Agassiz Circle.

Details of the proposal have not been disclosed, but BuffSci Executive Director Joseph Polat said the organization hopes to use the 14-acre campus to house its high school.

If finalized, the deal would replace the charter school's plan to build a new high school building at 239 Kensington Ave., he said.

Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School, which is the region's second largest charter school, had 1,484 students and 124 faculty members in Buffalo as of 2023. The school operates four facilities in the region — its current high school is at 190 Franklin St.

The same organization also runs the Rochester Academy of Science Charter School, which operates three facilities in Rochester.

Medaille's campus has been on the market since October. CBRE Upstate NY marketed the property, and accepted bids from late October to late November.

There are seven buildings on the campus:

- Kevin J. Sullivan Campus Center, which includes dining facilities, a fitness center and two basketball courts.

- Main Building, a four-story building with a 250-seat auditorium, classrooms and offices.

- Downey Science Building, a two-story building with classrooms and lab space.

- Huber Hall, a two-story building with classrooms, offices and a library.

- Admissions Building, a former residence converted into offices.

- North Residence Hall, a three-story dormitory.

- South Residence Hall, a five-story dormitory.

Trocaire College had been poised to acquire Medaille, but that deal fell apart in May. Medaille announced its closure later that month and closed over the summer."
