I currently live in NC, but I am from Buffalo. I would not go anywhere at night alone even in populated, lit up areas. However, all down Elmwood past Buffalo State College going towards downtown Buffalo is an excellent area to photograph. You would go towards an artsy area called Allentown. The houses are painted unique colors, decorative, etc. The Albright Knox Art Museum and the beautiful Delaware Lake behind it would be another place to photograph. That is also near Buffalo State College.

Sorry, can't help you with Buffalo, but you may want to check out downtown Syracuse, NY too. Many people comment how parts of Syracuse look "European". Clinton Square, Hanover Square, and Columbus Circle are great places to take photographs of architecture. I've seen models (probably local) do shoots in Armory Square in Syracuse. Ryan Dacko, a film maker, films movies in downtown Syracuse and has no problem with crime or traffic etc. His last film was called "And I lived". "Plan 9 from Syracuse" may bring more movies to Syracuse soon.
Thank you for these answers. I also will get information about Syracuse. But it's true, I like the style "little abandoned" in some areas of Buffalo. But i'm little affraid about the city's crimes problems. I know that near Broadway & Fillmore is dangerous ? Others neighborhoods too ? Sorry for my poor English level. Stephane
when are you planning to visit buffalo? i'm a native buffalonian and live near the allentown and elmwood areas and could at least point you in the right direction. if you have specific areas or buildings you'd like to photograph, please advise and i can provide you with some reference points. also note that there are several walking and architecture tours that are offered in the city, which may also help. in the meantime, if i can be of any assistance, let me know.
Thank you Kerrye, you're very nice. Unfortunately, I don't know when I will come in Buffalo. I'm working in Paris and I will not have a break in the immediate future. For the moment, I make research on Internet. In Paris, I am accustomed to walk days & nights in all the city to make pictures. there are only somes areas to avoid (especially the night). That's just dangerous in a few suburbs around the center. When I read information on the cities in the United States, it seems that's the opposite. It's dangerous in downtown and people live in quiet suburbs. I just want to know the dangerous Buffalo's neighborhoods and if it's possible to walking on the streets with a camera and a tripod. My first idea was to make pictures of buffalo, the night under snow. But if I well understood, Buffalo, the night.... One more time, thanks for all the answers and sorry for the errors of language. Stephane
