Very different design, at least from an art deco perspective. This isn't uncommon of medical facilities though. I have been inside a number of medical manufacturing plants, large foutains, large glass/mirror entranceways, courtyards and personal parks. Big money with anything medical.
Yes, it seems as though this modernistic style of medical buildings is becoming very prominent in the medical campus these days. Soon, a very modern medical corridor will coincide with perhaps the University at Buffalo's third campus, and thus moving the medical school there and making some changes, etc. New infrastructure changes will occur, and we just may have a world-class Medical District, including cancer research and other institutes, along with state of the art patient care and surgery. This prospering area will see outsider recognition and be attractive to worldwide organizations, all helping the community around it, and the world alike.
Well folks, in other news - the Tishman Building at 10 Lafayette Square is being sold, as bids are due by February 20th. Let's hope that this 1950's era blue glass shaded tint curtain facade high rise gets a spruce up in a gorgeous downtown remodel! - Whether that be in residential, commercial, or mixed-use spaces.
In other news...A stable Canadian Coffee Company considers currently Buffalo - as their new headquarters, and will be moving into the modern and recently constructed, 285 Delaware Building, on the edge of downtown Buffalo. This is great news with the amount of faith they are putting here albeit the recession, as they hope to open up several+ locations in the area. The Link:
We have a new development coming to Elmwood Avenue!
Boutique Hotel, for 125 rooms, enclosed parking for 160 cars, and 20 upper-floor condominiums. The development company is looking for full community and neighbor support, and so far have had positive feedback.
The New Federal Courthouse is also coming along nicely:
The rendering makes it look like glass yet when I drive by it, it looks real unimpressive. Hopefully the finished product will be better. I love the way the old federal building is coming along.

They are putting up a steel framework with boarded up windows to start - soon the entire structure will be covered from top to bottom in glass with the exception of the elevator tower - which will indeed be topped with a large light beacon. To be completed around the summer of '10. Don't be deceived now! Wait till we have the finished result and oh will Delaware be lookin good!
