Hi everyone. I moved to Buffalo a few years ago for school, and I've lived in the Canisus college area(not sure what the specific name of the area is), I've lived in University Heights, and now I live in Williamsville, which has, not surprisingly, been the nicest neighborhood of them all so far. Since I've moved up here, I got married and had my baby girl in the last year. The bottom line is, I rent, and I don't have the money to live here in Williamsville anymore..I need to reduce my monthly rent significantly. I looked at an apartment in the Schiller Park area, off of Genesee, close to the Buffalo-Cheektowaga line. I liked the apartment, and from what I saw, I didn't really mind the neighborhood, it just seemed like on some of the streets, it was low-income families, and more middle-income on some of the other streets. Kids were out riding bikes, skateboarding, etc. and I had a better impression of it than I did living in University Heights, but of course it's not as nice as Williamsville. I looked up the area on Spot Crime, and I see that there were two shootings a little bit further down Genesee, but no other crimes are listed for the area. I guess I'm just asking for honest, reasonable opinions about the area. Thanks in advance.

There is a lot of crime in that area and it is trending worse. There are plenty of other better areas than Schiller Park you could afford if you are looking to cut expenses.

You need to think about schools too, schools in that area are pretty bad.

Thanks for responding. Could you give me any examples of these other areas? I don't want to live in University Heights again, and my lease is almost up here. We would plan on living in our next apartment only for a year, until my husband graduates from UB.

Also, I found a map with the different areas of Buffalo marked, for reference.

What is your budget and how much space do you need? I'm sure you could find something in Tonawanda, Kenmore, Cheektowaga or in North Buffalo. Do you have to live in the City?

If you want the city, maybe something in North Park or adjacent neighborhoods. Even Kenmore, would seem like a reasonable option. Maybe even the Cleveland Hill area of Cheektowaga would be a solid choice.

I grew up 5 houses down from Schiller Park. Lived there for 22 years. Left 2 years ago and I still have family there. It's gotten even worse since I left.

I know the neighborhood probably better than anyone on this forum. As much as I would love to see a reasonable person move into the neighborhood to make it better, I don't think ANYONE should move there.

Try South Buffalo off Seneca Street if you want to live in the city but not be the victim of numerous crimes, as I was when I lived near Schiller Park.

Send me a PM if you're really that interested though, like I said, I know SO MUCH about the neighborhood. I could probably give you an opinion on every street.

I don't need anything huge, but I would like a 2 bedroom. I've been paying $800/month for my 2 bedroom in Williamsville, and I would like to pay no more than $500. I would like to live in the city area, because my husband goes to class 5 days a week at UB North. I work a couple of days a week in Hamburg, but I don't think it would be worth it to move out there because of what it would cost in gas for my husband to be able to go to class.

Yes, that's a good example of what I'm looking for. Thank you.
