I noticed them the other week...dark navy blue, look lik plastic arp boexes..is it some kind of weird insect control? I have never seen them before?

I saw them as well. I wonder if there is a bait for some kind of insect that is being looked for. They are hanging in treed areas in Lancaster, Clarence, Alden, Akron, Newstead and beyond.

It appears they are lures to catch the Emerald Ash Borer, an Asian Beetle that has the potential to wipe out the Ash tree population in the U.S.

Was on the radio out here the other day, supposidly was spotted in Cheektowaga. The bore into the trees to lay eggs and end up killing it. NY has an estimated 900,000,000 ash trees from the report. There is even one in front of my house! Some maple are also affected.

I looked up the Emerald Ash Borer, and I have an Ash tree in my front yard that is dying for no apparent reason... I think that I need to call the Town or something...
