Wait until winter. You won't be so pleasant, and the breeze won't be pleasant.
Ive been here for 2 winters & was in NNY for a few before that. Im always pleasant in the winter as it is easily my favorite time of year & I spend as much time as possible outside in the winter. I specifically moved to NY from Texas because 1) I hate Texas in the summer & 2)Texas didnt have a snowy/cold enough winter for someone that truly enjoys snow & winter sports.
I moved to SW Florida 2 years ago but not only because of the weather, which was effecting my breathing, but also because of taxes and local politicians.
With all the good things about WNY, the politicians have not done one major thing to make life better in the area. The water front project and peace bridge projects are bogged down with politicians serving their own interests over those of the people. County taxes are out of control. Many Local governments are doing a good job and being told to consolidate. And the economic outlook for out children is not good. My Children left first to look for work. I had to wait till retirement.
On the bright side, I miss the 4 seasons and traditional Christmas. I miss a lot of my friends and the warm people, but fishing, going in the pool or the beach and playing golf anytime I want to are not a bad trade off. I also love the year round landscape.
Where every I go, I meet people who left WNY
Denver, Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, Austin, Tampa
Baltimore, Raleigh, Chicago, Charlotte, Lexington, Richmond, Atlanta, But again WNY lost more then half it's population.
If you want to see where Buffalo/WNY people go, just turn on a Sabres game when they're on the road. You'll hear more Sabres' fans than the home fans.
The suburban school districts in Buffalo are fantastic. The schools in Georgia do not compare to the schools I am familiar with in the Buffalo area. I am biased and love Lancaster for many reasons but there are a lot of great districts such as West Seneca, Orchard Park, Iroquois, Clarence, and Williamsville. I have never heard a positive comment about any district in Florida. You will know your kids are safe and that the teachers are highly qualified.
I heard this from a friend who moved from Utah. He said if he went back to Utah, the kids would be in private schools.
I know here that the teachers need a Master degree to teach in comparison to Florida where you just need a Bachelor degree.
Population of 8 WNY counties at peak 1,784.000
Population of 8 counties last census 1,593,000 Obviously less than half left... far less.
