Here in florida Property Law is the biggest. Most lawfirms/atty's down here handle realistate. Either selling it or foreclosing on it. What about in Buffalo? Since everyone talks about the crime rate I would imaging Criminal Law is a big field to get into.
I haven't made up my mind yet as to what field I want to go into when I graduate (either criminal, animal welfare/environmental, public-interest) so what's big in Buffalo is somthing that my help me to decide incase I endup staying there perminantly.
The Buffalo metro area has one of the lowest crime rates of any million plus metro in the US. A big law area around here are the usual malpractice ambulance chaser types of lawsuits. There is are also a significant number of immigration lawyers here due to the location on the border and the immigration prison near Batavia.
Another big area for lawyers throughout NYS is disability and worker's comp litigation. Basically the state laws (i.e. the Scaffold Law) are written to pretty much guarantee every incident results in a lawsuit. Disability and worker's comp litigation is practically an entire industry. Even some doctors specialize their practices around it.
