I live in the looney acres part of Amherst, On Glenhaven Dr. Its full of Duplexes, and full of trouble. My family and I have lived here 1 yr., to long.... Glenhavens the worst street in Amherst by far. The quote of Amherst being the safest place to live is just not accurate at all. Heres why, cops show up, tell everyone to make nice, dont file any report... ( NOW DOSENT THAT ADD TO BEING THE BEST PLACE,SAFEST PLACE TO LIVE... NOTHING EVER GETS REPORTED AT ALL)...Stay off Glenhaven Dr., Or the streets around here, Basically the whole Creekwoods area. " CREEKWOODS" A quick note about Buccurus. , the lower looney acres.. Its bad also... Especially around Marine Dr., Cops have their hands full, interracialy mixed, drugs, and crime ridden also...
I'm looking at buying a home on Hitching Post Ln in Amherst (off Glenhaven in the Sweet Home area) and I've heard a lot about looney acres....is Hitching Post in looney acres? Where exactly is looney acres? The house is great but I'm concerned as it's close to Glenhaven which I heard was not so great...is the neighborhood that bad?
So that is where Looney Acres is. I was always wondering where this frequently mentioned part of Amherst is and can never seem to find it on any map. It is always referred to as Bucyrus Heights.
I used to live in Looney Acres in '77-'79, back when the Amherst Police gave the area its name. Back then it was a low income community with more than its share of crime. Nothing violent, that I can remember, but I was only 14 years old at the time. Sweet Home Road and Sundridge Drive were the east-west boundaries and N. French and Glenhaven were the north and south boundaries. I used to live near the park that wasn't there when I was.
I just pulled this thread up, we are looking into different areas to live and this is suprising to me.. I never knew that there was a "bad" area to Amherst. Is the zip code 14228 in Amherst a "bad" area in terms of crime and "looney acres"??? Thanks, we have been looking into various options and 14228 seemed to be a nice area (on the internet that is__)
