Hello Buffalo Forum!
I am new to the area and hear there is a lot of fun family activity in the summer in Delaware Park such as puppet shows, movies and Zoo activities. What are your thoughts and feelings on Delaware Park and is there a lot to do for families? Driving by I just see jogging, and not a lot of playground equipment, just a big green open space. Does the city capitalize on this area? Safety a concern?
The big green open space in the middle is a golf course. Playground equipment consists of a few swings, near the ballfield. Generally, there is more to do/see over by Hoyt Lake, such as Shakespeare In The Park, more playground equipment, walking paths and I believe they have started renting boats again in the lake. Oh, and free music Fridays at the Albright-Knox.

Wait until it warms up a bit & the kids are out of school, Delaware Park will be packed everyday, all day. Shakespeare in the Park is during June-August in the early evening (7ish).

Walk over by the Albright Knox and the place will be full by the lake. There are lots of locations there that fill up with families. The Zoo area also fills up. If you let kids run by themselves, sure, there is a "safety" issue: you are not watching them and roads are all around the park! Shakespeare in the Park is fantastic. There are summer programs for kids at the Zoo ( you might buy a family membership -- saves lots of money). The area is family friendly.
