I'am from Essex junction Vermont .I was talking to my life long school frined and just talking not about anything just stuff in general and I had told him I saw the girl that survived the attack that killed her best frined back in 1981 I was 8 at that time when it happened but boy did it sturup horrible memories. I see Meghan the one that survived from time to time.I have talked to her a few times.I know were the spot is that Hamlin and savage did it I have seen it a few times I only live about 2 miles from it.I can remember my father who was on the fire department came home after looking for them and was very upset.And I know most of the police officer that were involved in this search said has they found them in time and had the more advanced life saving stuff like they do now Meghan would have survived but time was not on their side and the life saving techonolgy was not that advanced like it is now

I'm not sure if you're asking a question or just making a statement?

The murder was a horrible act, committed by horrible people. It scared the area terribly and was the first real crazy murder in that area in a long time.

Read the book way back in the eighties 'Death of Innocence" not to be confused with the book of the same title relating to the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey. It was a cruel and vicious attack to say the least. Ironically after reading the book, in the early 1990s actually had business as an LE officer in an NEK town with one of the perpetrators (goes by a different name). Investigated a misdemeanor offense in which he was involved.

The perpetrator you dealt with was Hamlin, I suppose. A few years afterward, newspapers reported that Savage was living in North Dakota and gave his new surname.

Anders Breivik, the Norwegian who killed 70 people, will be getting out of jail after seven years' confinement. Norway has determined that longer confinement does nothing to improve a person. One hopes that in Hamlin's and Savage's case the Norwegian theory has proven true.

i just randomly came across this post. i had never heard of this as i wasn't born until 83 and didn't set foot into Essex until 2003. i did some looking and it seems wood side Juvenal detention center came about because of this case. i remember hearing about wood side as a kid but i didn't know it was still in use. i haven't been able to find much about the teen age killers. were they well known troubled youth? did they ever say why they did it? like was this a thing the boys had been talking about doing for a long time and the two girl were just in the wrong place at the wrong time? its just seems very strange one minute the boys are hunting small game and the next they are murdering???
