Hi,

I'm driving to Burlington with my 12 year old daughter on Wednesday morning just for our yearly dad-daughter vacation. We'll be driving from Rochester NY which is about 6 hrs drive. We are planning to return to Rochester by Friday night.

I've no idea where to go but friends suggested Burlington. We like hills, valleys, water body, fall colors but we also like to go around city on foot where we can find some crowd. We like to try out restaurants, spicier the better especially in cold. We are not too big on budget. Any low key but clean place would work.

Also, what other places we MUST go since we are driving that far? Any ideas on what kids like to do in Vermont.

I appreciate any suggestions you could provide.

Thanks
Amit

Take the ferry into Burlington. It'll be cold and windy but is a great way to enter the state. Route 100 between Stowe and Waitsfield is the area that a lot of people like. Ben & Jerry's is in Waterbury. Stowe is small but has foot traffic.

To get the most out of a trip, you and your daughter would do well to do a little reading on the history of the area. There were naval battles on Lake Champlain, the state was an independent republic briefly and the house of one of the founders still exists.

If your daughter is into poetry, a trip to Middlebury and Breadloaf makes sense. The Breadloaf conferences play big in that world.

There are a few buildings at the Shelburne Museum open, but unfortunately not the Ticonderoga and some of the smaller buildings.

Kids are into snow / winter sports in VT. You might consider a stop in Manchester VT, the Country Store in Westin, or Saratoga Springs.
