Some of the early VT copper coins used "Vermontis" for the state's name.

Also "Vermontensium."
Kind of interesting the mix of French and Latin used in this state for its name and its University's name. Vermont has French origins yet Latin has been used on its coins and university name, and French is a language derived from Latin and some other languages. Makes for quite a mix, looking at it that way.
I think most people assume UVM stands for
