Plattsburgh has a lot of hillbillies in the city.

Forget it, you can't compare Plattsburgh to Burlington. If you could, Plattsburgh wouldn't be one of the cheapest places in the Northeast. It just doesn't work that way.

Cliff Klaven?

So people like Plattsburgh. That's great, I wish I did. I could saw 100k off my mortgage. The constant Burlington bashing though really shows off the red-headed step child inferiority complex people in Plattsburgh feel toward Burlington. You think people from Burlington look down on you? Not at all. They're not even thinking about you. So people are rushing to Burlington
and not Plattsburgh? Don't be angry about it, consider yourself lucky that (in your eyes anyway) you live in a best kept secret town.

As for the hillbilly remark you made earlier. Not everyone is fortunate enough to live in swanky cosmopolitan areas like Plattsburgh and North Dakota.

I am big enough to admit when I have wrongly judged a town, and I think that Plattsburgh is looking more likely every day.

The chimichanga I had Smoked Pepper last night might have put it over the top.

DH is definitely going to be taking classes there and we just gotta figure out the logistics of living there and working in Burlington.

I'm not quite sure how to put this but, Burlington proper might just be "too cool" for me. I like the idea of Burlington, but on most days I'm happy to stay put on my side of the river in Winooski. Plattsburgh has a similar manageableness that I can dig. And the fact that I might be able to buy a house over there instead of renewing yet another $1500/mo lease is very very appealing. (If I can figure out how to get a frigging mortgage... that's another post)

I'll still work in Burlington, but I've found a lot of nurses that do the commute without a problem. It's an hour. The ones that don't like the drive have a little crash pad that they split each pay a few hundred a month for which might be an option.

I'm still thinking about it. But I want to say thanks to everyone for their input and apologize for whatever implied or actual Plattsburgh bashing I may have done in the past. I stand corrected!
My son just finished his freshman year at SUNY Plattsburgh and loves it there. You have just convinced me to try Smoked Pepper next time we are up there. We have eyed it a few times but always chose surrounding restaurants. My experience with Plattsburgh thus far (about four college-related trips) has been very positive.
