Wait... Sears to be replaced by KMart? The day that happens, I will never shop at Sears again! Which brand is more respected?

They are linked online (Sears.com) already and brands mean nothing anymore.

This makes me want to go out and buy A&W root beer and corn pops. Maybe if we quit sticking corn in the gas tank...

Not sure why any of this is important or even very interesting. The demise of brands is nothing new. Remember Hudson automobiles? Not unless you're old like I am, as they went under in the 1950's. And Studebaker was not far behind. And these were not just models like Pontiac was a model produced by General Motors, but Hudson and Studebaker were the manufacturers themselves.

Both important and interesting to me. Important because of what can be learned from the autopsy and interesting for the same reason.

Really a cautionary tale. I would bet that there are/were brilliant leaders running these ships who through either misguided vision or circumstance have gone from being a brilliant visionary to a failure almost overnight.

Neither are respected anymore. Sears-Kmart may not go out of business is 2012 but they will close down someday, they have been slowly going out for decades now. That's why it will be nearly impossible to save it now, the mismanagement is so ingrained there now. Combining Kmart and Sears was a stupid idea to begin with. (Combining Chrsyler and Fiat is another example of pairing two weak companies)

They don't seem to ever learn from these disasters. I can think of a ton of big companies that once had huge loyal customer bases but lost them due to some really dumb things.
