Where are legit places to apply for a free grant to start a business. I did a Google search and it seams most take you to a different website. Has anyone ever gotten a grant for a biz?
There are very few grants to start a business. Most that I know of are in the green fuel sector. There are SBA loans that are very favorable if your credit is decent and there are micro-loans available also. Depending on your needs the Express type of SBA loans require very little documentation and the turnaround is very fast. I'm currently working with a bank for a Patriot Express Loan for veterans or their family members.
Check with your local SBA or SCORE office for their classes on Business Financing, our local group runs 2 classes a month on financing. They're also a great resource for writing, reviewing and networking your business plan. I had SCORE and SBA review my plan then SCORE provided a "lender review" from a current business financing professional to examine the viability of your plan.

There are plenty of people willing to take your money for books on this subject, but the truth is that there is no free money. There are grants for renewable energy projects, where you get money to develop projects but even that is going to run out soon as it's a real scam.
