Hello

Just made a reservation with a tour company in England for an historical tour. Is there a way that I can confirm that the company is in good standing and that it would be safe to transfer the money?

It occurred to me that anyone could say they are a tour company and set up a bank account. Maybe a silly thought but if it were in the US I would check the chamber of commerce or better business bureau.

Do they have something like that in England?

Any suggestions?

thank you

I would not do that.

Instead I would make arrangements with a local travel agency. And pay with a credit card. Then you are protected.

You have to be careful with that! I don't know if there is a BBB in UK or not; hopefully someone will come along that knows.

wire transfer?? sounds shady... are you sure this is UK and not Nigeria

use only a credit card so that you have some protection.

besides that search reviews on established sites - tripadvisor etc. Or go with some reputed tour company in the UK like Golden Tours - I have done a few tours with them and they are excellent.

thanks all, probably best. I will ask that it be paid by credit card and if they do not, I will cancel.

it was appealing in that this is a famous historical book author who would give talks at places mentioned in her books. But the wire transfer part bothers me.

Post on the UK forum and ask if they are really a business.

The problem is, they can cut and paste and "say" they are the company...then when you look them up, they seem legit.

But only the name they have stolen is legit....not the fake company.

I would go local ONLY...

Go local or CC only. If there is anything otherwise it seems shady. A CC offers you some protection.
