I have a bank acount and would like to transfer money to another bank. What do I need from the recipient, i.e bank name obviously, recipients name but do I need their account number and routing number to give my bank?
Bank Name
Account Holder Name
Routing Number
Account Number
The last two will actually do, but they should want to confirm they match the first two.
Also the $ amount and date/time you want the transfer to occur.
If you are doing phone or internet/email requests, they will generally want a signed authorization letter (a form letter from/by them) stating you have approved the service. This may take a day or more to process, so file it in advance.
Keep in mind also that the banks charge a bit of money for it. It's called a wire transfer and it ranges anywhere from $30 to $50 each time unless it's your bank (your name and address), then it's considered an external account and they tend to charge less. If you want to pay someone, the best thing to do is either do it as a billpay (which is usually free from most banks) or send them a Western Union wire transfer, which is dramatically cheaper. There is always the option of Paypal also, which does not charge a fee if it's a personal payment or gift.
