GREENSBURG, Indiana, Nov 17 (Reuters) - The rest of the country may have been debating the possible bankruptcy of America's iconic automakers on Monday, but in southeast Indiana more than 1,000 U.S. workers were cheering the opening of Honda's newest assembly plant.
Better than GM annoucing a new russian plant opening and hiring increase in India while asking Tax payers in the US for 25 billion. Mean while Honda is employing US workers. Bet there are alot of peole who will be unemployed hoping for these jobs at good wages. Maybe noit at the wages that have driven GM into the condition they are how.
Yeah but how much are they getting paid for said labor? "Fair market" wage? According to whom? The Unemployed? *yawn*

But as seen in the hearing the Big three are going no where with 70.00 hours labor cost and that does not include legacy cost of retirement. Heck even when they layoff they still conitue to pay. Noit many americans would say that cost is market value in industry;espoecailly one that has gone down hill ofr decdes. The japanese have 35.00 cost which is more in line and not near the legacy cost.

I listened to some of the hearing myself. Recorded it and have a bit more to go through. Did I hear it right that Senator Debbie Stabenow of MI stated that Toyota has gone to the Great Brit Gov for a $56 Billion loan ??????? I guess Toyota may not be as well off as everyone might think !
Ya, that micro economist that testified kept busting on the UAW... Said too many times how they are going to contribute to the US Auto demise !
Acura's new ILX sedan will also be produced and built at that Greensburg facility alongside the hot-selling Civic, making it the first car from Acura, Lexus or Infiniti to be built in the USA, although I wouldn't be surprised if Infiniti and Lexus eventually go that route given the strength of the yen, which makes producing cars cheaper here in the USA as opposed to Japan.

This is good news but am a cynic. How much kickback aka incentive did Honda receive from state of Indiana..that's buried somewhere in the news..
Job creation in this country is all about incentives and I don't know why a company needs to be paid or given tax breaks if they can find good labour at decent pay rate!!!
The lower labour cost should in itself be an incentive for investment.
