I am endlessly amazed at all the people who think they can earn lots of money with little investment and no work. All they need is for someone to tell them the "secret".

If I ever think up a business idea where someone can get in for $20,000-$30,0000, not work too hard, and make a ton of money, I am going to franchise it and sell a million of them.

I can think of two examples of very low start up costs, little work, and high returns.

Pet rock.

Place an ad somewhere with high traffic that says "want to know how to make a lot of money fast? Send 3 dollars to (your address, preferably a post office box). then when you get the 3 dollars, to make it legal and not a scam, you send them back a letter that says do what I did.

The same logic of running away from a bear works in the financial world too.

You don't have to be the smartest person, you just have to be smarter than other people.

My dad was friends with a guy that spent most of the year on his boat hanging out at the harbor. He worked maybe a week or two a year.

He spent the year developing stories for the entertainment industry. He would sell his idea each year and take the rest of the year off.

I think that the best way to make money is to develop assets. What I am talking about is a song writer, author, app developer or what have you. You build something that you can sell over and over again. Let the asset make you money.

Wow , sounds like that guy really had it made. He just came up with the ideas, but did not write the stories?

That was a long time ago, but still from what I know, he came up with ideas for the shows or what have you and maybe because his ideas had sold in the past, he was able to sell other stories. Then again he had the connections that I do not have. Would love to have those connections though.
