As superficial as this may sound, I think this could be a hit. Not expecting to get rich or anything, but I would like to start a website specifically geared toward college students and or 20-somethings(young people) who are socially awkward, disabled, have very busy schedules, frequently relocate, etc who yearn to have a more active social life and connect them with more "popular" outgoing types. Any idea how I could go about making such a site? What would I need to do first? How much could I expect to profit if it was a success. Just a thought I had being you have to get more creative in this tough job market and was wondering where to go from here. Thanks!

I would definitely make a forum, or chat room a huge part of it. An introverted person is attracted to that. Heck City Data alone is probably mostly that kind of person.

Also try to gear it towards a specific interest like video games, or some fiction genre for books. Introverted people have interests too. That is who you get their attention.

and I must admit yours is good idea.

In order to "rent a friend" you would have to have paid employees who would go out and be sociable with people they normally would not hang out with.

I would think that it would be possible to hire some nice college students who would like to be paid to basically babysit adults for an evening.

The big problem I see right off the bat is that socially inept men might be expecting their "rent a friend" to provide sex. (mistake your service for an escort service).

I can see it working. Plan on a lot of time and money to get it off the ground. Lots of people might like to have a last minute fill-in for some event, if their regular pal can't make it for some reason. Or travelers who don't like to dine in restaurants alone or want someone to talk to while they sightsee.

Add: if you are in a tourist area, your "rent a friend" could pick up at the airport and act like a local tour guide.

Seriously, you could make something out of this idea.

I think that a better version of that would be a "match.com" sort of thing, for platonic/friendship type of relationships. Rather than starting just-another-escort-service (that's really all it would be), try and connect people that actually have things in common and would have a chance of becoming real friends. I don't think that people who are already not happy with themselves would feel any better having to pay for friendship.

I forgot about that "renting" part.

Why not just start a social meet-up site geared towards socially inept people? You can put up ads and generate leads for companies

Yeah like "Serialkillervictimdelivery.com" or "RapidRapistDelivery.com".......the "loner" aspect of this idea alarms me

I think not. It's really the same as a "legitimate" escort service and they have the advantage of hiring only good-looking people. Your idea could siphon off some of their business only if the prices were low, but then by the time you pay people,
there is not much left in the way of profit.
