I came across a website in the U.K that rents designer carry-on luggage and was curious about if this would be a good start-up business in the US. Would you rent a Louis Vuitton carry-on for about $100 a week? Just trying to get some insight on the reason anyone would or would not consider using this service. I've seen a couple websites (like bag borrow and steal) that rent out designer handbags and they seem to be profitable businesses so I am just wanting to get some feedback on if this same concept would work with designer luggage. Thanks in advance!

There is always a market for everything but I do not think the average American would rent a bag.....$100 a week..I don't think it would be that profitable.

Renting an expensive new bag to impress the expensive old bag trying to bore you to death with conversation for a four hour flight? You have to be kidding, right?

It doesn't matter to me one iota what other passengers think of my luggage. I would never consider renting a designer item.

Considering the rate that the airlines damage luggage, I would think that the business that owned the expensive luggage would be taking a huge risk of losing their inventory.

Even the carry-ons are at risk. Overhead bins are much too crowded and things get pushed very hard, trying to jam one more piece of luggage into them.

With renting a handbag, one is carrying that bag out and around the people they wish to impress. That is not true of luggage. It only goes to the airport and stays in the hotel room (where it risks being stolen if it is high value). One does not carry the small luggage around to dinner meetings or the opera.

However, I am completely mystified by the whole designer bag thing, so my opinion isn't worth much on this subject.

Oh wait. I just thought of a time I would rent an entire set of expensive luggage.

If I were a con artist and going to an outrageously expensive resort in order to con a wealthy mark out of a fortune, I would need expensive luggage to sit at reception until the bell hop took it to my room.

Image is everything under those circumstances.

Everything has got its advantage and disadvantage. This is indeed a very good concept for a business , but the cost for the rent also matters. At the inception of this business one should charge the rent a little bit down . Once it is popular among mass it can be increased.

not knocking you but initial gut feeling is why that's stupid. that said american consumers are stupid so maybe its a get rich idea lol. i can see maybe handbags for a wedding or fashion event your attending or something but luggage? i just dont get it.

also keep in mind this luggage is not cheap like thousands of dollars per piece and you want a selection of stuff not just one kind of bag so its not a low cost startup at all. also you need multiple pieces as you cant be telling people were out all the time.

it sounds like a horrific idea
the people that care so much about the brand of their luggage are just going to buy it outright.
