It's really hard to get ranking on google so you even with good content you can't really expect people just to find you by googling. If your on facebook you can start facebook groups about your topic and niche, then post articles on there from your blog and tehy have interest to those people as they are interested in your niche. Also youtube is an easy way to rank on google searches so to be successful blogging you definately have to have a social media presence and strong youtube account.

I had 2 different blogs, the first was a video game/nerdy blog. It failed pretty spectacularly, kept it up for about a year. Made about $80... but it was fun, don't really regret doing it. My 2nd blog was a photography/travel blog. I wasn't trying to make money on that, but I did get a photograph in a University of California textbook. I doubt I have time to manage it, but I'd like to start a blog/vlog on my restaurant business.
