Advertisements

I suppose the businesses that follow a person around find benefit from it, but it's so tiresome to search for a product and then have an ad for the product be everywhere in my online activities. I searched for cedar oil because I knew nothing about it and now wherever I surf, there's an ad for cedar oil. I check out a handbag and the same thing happens. I bought a flash drive online, but the ads for flash drives are ever present. This method must be successful or it wouldn't continue. But that doesn't make it better.

You can turn off cookies, but may still get ads, just not directed to your surfing. You can also opt out on both yahoo and google, with advanced options to be specific about what to block. Go to the Yahoo! Ad Interest Manager or Google’s Privacy Center.

I'm not really bothered by ads as long as they are not popups and if a site uses popups you have to decide if their content is worth dealing with that headache. There's ome browser addons for firefox and other browsers where you can block all ads, adsense boxes won't even show up, youtube won't play prerolls, etc. Don't recall the name of the one I used

adblock + and no-script and a tweaked hosts file makes life easier.
