Almost 85 years after it started making those yellow creme-filled sponge cake snacks, the Schiller Park, Ill., bakery is turning off its ovens for good, according to Hostess Brands on Wednesday. The facility was reopened in July 2013 after the company's bankruptcy and acquisition by private equity firms Apollo Global Management and C. Dean Metropoulos & Co. Hostess treats were off the shelves for eight months allowing competitors to introduce "knockoff" products that may have hurt the company's sales, the Chicago Tribune said.
