Step 1: Sign up for a new Tumblr, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+ accounts for your site (even if you have personal ones.)

For the first 3, create a new email address with your website's domain and sign up for new accounts in all 3 services. For the last one, if you already have a Google account, go to your Google+ page and create a new page for your website.

Step 2: Leave the 4 accounts above alone for at least 24 hours.

If you skip this step, you might encounter restrictions in step 3 and 4.

Step 3: Repost/retweet a bunch of images or stuff that's related to what your website is about on all 4 accounts.

Make your profiles look attractive and somewhat active. This is very important in preparation for step 4.

Step 4: Follow a bunch of people interested in your website's niche, and about 10-20% of them will follow you back.

For Tumblr:

Search for images related to your website's niche. Try to find posts that are less than 1 month old and have at least 30 notes. Like a bunch of these images. Then go to your Likes tab, click on the Notes for one of the images, and click the + signs to follow a bunch of people. You can follow up to 200 people on Tumblr a day but I like to keep a low profile and only do 100-150/day. Keep doing this everyday until you're following 5000 ppl and now you should have about 500+ followers.

For Pinterest:

Similar to Tumblr, search for images related to what your website is about and follow the people who liked or repinned the image. Follow 200 people a day until you have about 1000 followers or if you're following 5000+.

For Twitter:

Search for users whose account is about the same subject as your website and follow their followers. Don't follow too many, try to stick to 50-100 a day or you'll get banned. Do this daily until you're following 900-1000 people.

For G+:

Do a search on G+ for your website's topic/niche and then pull up the G+ posts. Click on the tiny picture icons in the lower right and you'll bring up everyone who +1'd or reshared the post. Follow everyone and keep doing this will all the search results until G+ won't let you add more people that day. And repeat this everyday until you've followed at least 500 people.

Step 5: Post out your website's contents.

Once you have roughly the following # of followers on each account, you're ready to promote your website.

Tumblr: 500
Pinterest: 1000
Twitter: 100
G+: 75

Make sure you have social share icons and/or a mailing list on your website for the next part.

Everyday, post a link to your website to EACH of your social accounts you've developed earlier here. Try to include an attractive photo along with your post (esp for Tumblr and Pinterest.) Try to post a different page on your website everyday (esp if it's a blog, post a different blog post every single day rather than the same old one all the time.)

If the pictures you post to your social accounts are any good, people will visit your website. If your website is any good, people will sign up for your email list and/or share it to their social accounts.

Good luck.

99% of search engine optimization is doing this....

Determine 2 or 3 key words that are most critical to driving traffic to your site by using Google's keyword tool. Example: "Bakersfield + Plumber". Make sure it's not some keywords that a big name company will never be toppled in SEO rankings (example: buy + books). Study other pages that are high in the rankings when searching for those words. Then register a domain that includes those keywords. Register for at least 5 years. Then optimize your site to include those keywords across your landing page. Don't over do it or you'll be penalized. That's why you study other sites that rank highly. Create lots of content for your site. A shell of a site will get ignored by Google and Yahoo. Then create back links by signing up with any and all of the social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WordPress, Google+, Pinterest, Stumbled Upon, SoundCloud, etc, etc. Link them ALL together. Update these pages every once in a while. Then wait. It may take 2 months to advance up the rankings on Google and Yahoo.

I can't think of a more saturated field these days than web agencies. They all do SEO and adwords. Everybody is fighting for the same eyeballs.

SEO is half voodoo, half wishful thinking and pretty much all really crappy writing churned out for the bots and resulting in bad Google Translate copy for, you know, those wet eyeballs you're trying to attract.
