Why is the poster happy that car sales are down ? Automotive industry is at a cutting edge point with technology and will be key for future job growth.
This drop is a disaster for the industry, but not entirely unexpected and I’m sure all the automakers have a plan in place.

Will it? Really? With more robotic assembly lines? Automation everything? AI? Why would you be hiring low hands for all that? Even sweeps will be autonomous robots.

Here's example:

The recently released World Robotics report presented by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) shows a new record stock of about 300,000 operational industrial robots in the Republic of Korea in 2018. Within five years, the country has doubled its number of industrial robots.
South Korea has already embraced robots, particularly in its manufacturing sector, where “robot density” ranks second place in the world, following Singapore. With 774 industrial robots per 10,000 employees, the Republic of Korea has more than twice the number of Germany (3rd with 338 units) and Japan (4th with 327 units).

How many "new hires" do you see here:

Well, vehicles today are electronically complex and are getting more features by the day. A lot of this will involve good software development which leads to more white collar jobs.
Also, robots are good at doing the same repetitive task. They do not have a good tendency to spot specific anomalies and fix them. Humans are necessary for those purposes.
The F150 plants have thousands of employees, and not all are line workers. We have engineers to sequence the line, reprogram the robots, check the vehicle for error codes indicating electrical issues, and so much more.

Who said anybody is happy? The money did say that they would bounce back the second month which obviously is not the case.
