I obviously want a job that requires more responsibility and in return more money. What job title would I search for now that I have some experience as a Junior Accountant. Thanks everyone.
Would a staff accountant be too far out of my reach? I have been reading that a staff accountant does have ALOT of responsibilities. I am just not sure if it would be something I am even capable of handling not because of stress but knowledge instead.
Some extra info: I am still employed as a Junior Accountant. I have only my bachelors in accounting with no prior experience in the accounting field. I have been here at my current job for about 10 months. I do journal entries, purchase orders, bank reconciliations. It is a private company. Please advise.
I am an auditor in public accounting. Titles can vary widely and I applaud you for having the foresight to recognize the importance of titles. Although your question is a little general I do feel like the next logical step would be "staff accountant/general accountant". Accounting is such a wide field however, (Tax, Audit, Internal Audit, Cost Accounting, etc.) especially merged with finance.
In some companies an entry level accountant may be titled "Staff Accountant 1, or Staff Accountant", while another company may have the entry level accountant titled "General Accountant". Heck some companies are so small they may only have clerks and one Senior Accountant.
I wouldn't let the job description intimidate you; usually they are written by HR who know nothing about the position or an Accounting manager who wants to make the position seem like it's more than it is.
But to repeat my answer, staff/general accountant would be next assuming you-well like the job title suggests want to stay in general accounting.
