Hello, I'm trying to start a local moving company in Colorado. All moves will remain in the city. Several websites I've visited say I need a household goods number and property carrier number. I can't find out how to get these or even what they are, or if they are only needed for interstate movers. Additionally, I saw that I might need a DOT number. Same deal. Do I recieve these after I apply for a movers permit in Colorado? Any help is much appreciated. Thank-you.

Call the state and CO SBDC to find out what you need. Also contact other companies offering similar service to what you have in mind. Found a couple of local movers in CO online.

There are local movers that don't even own trucks......they get an occupational license and then rent a budget/uhaul truck on days that they need it. Eliminates a lot of expense/hassle.
