I hope this can stay out of politics, and just concentrate on economics, but hey, this is CD. So lets talk Trump Business.

Anyway, Trump seems to think his "brand" is worth about 6 Billion dollars. This calculation comes from his claim that he is worth $10B while the people who track such things put his net worth at only $4B.

So, the question to me is... how valuable is that brand really?

As a comparison, the Disney Brand is very tangible and incredibly valuable. I don't think anyone doubts that. You can see in the many movies, parks, souvenirs, cruises, etc... all the things that many families flock to - primarily because it has the Disney name on it.

Almost everything "Trump" I have ever heard of except maybe the NYC real estate and the Apprentice show have crashed and burned; the school, the steaks, the airline, the game, the casinos (last I heard he was suing to get his name off the property), the water, the vodka; nobody I know says oh, I gotta go get me some of that Trump "whatever."

Last I watched it, "The Apprentice" seemed to be a show geared toward selling those Trump products. Looking at IMDB I see that it is still on the air so it must have some popularity.

So what is out there that exists that people clamor for - that had the Trump name on it? I don't know the NYC apartment/condo market so to those who know. How badly do people want to get into a Trump property? Is it really that prestigious? Do people take pride in saying 'I live in the "Trump Umptysquat?"'

Is the real estate the only part of his "empire" that does well? If you search for a Trump branded product, do you do it because it is something you gotta have? Or would you purchase a Trump product just to satisfy curiosity?

Since I can't afford his brand nor is brand found in the PNW, I find that his stuff is pretty much a bunch of schlock.

I didn't like the Apprentice. Good examples of bad behavior, no morals, or ethics. And poor leadership/mentoring.
YMMV.

His NYC buildings are in prime locations, I think they would be popular with or without his name. Open a history book and name the building after any random European monarch and the building would do fine.

Is there some sort of reason I should care?

His name is good enough to be parleyed into a presidential nomination. My name wouldn't do that for me. So I'm going to guess that his brand is sronger than mine. Beyond that, I really have no interest in his brand. I don't rent apartments in NY, I don't drink vodka, and I don't gamble, so I have no interest in what brand name is on those products. Not that I would give a tinker's squeak about what brand name is on any product that I buy or rent. I buy the product I like, not the image in the advertising.

Incidentily, I don't buy a product just because Disney is on the label, either, and I doubt that anyone does unless they have children under the age of 8.
