I am in the process of starting an IT business. Anyone have a recommendation on which service to use? Something like www.incorporate.com ? Also, I am currently living in Illinois (Chicago area), but this business will not have a storefront or office. It will be home based. Should I use Illinois as my state to incorporate or is there a compelling reason to use a different state? Most of my work will likely occur in Illinois, but there will likely be work out of state too. I'll be the sole owner initially so I'm thinking LLC makes the most sense?

I'll be the sole owner...
Anyone have a recommendation...
Start by talking to your attorney about the sort of liability you might have
then talk to a good insurance agent about the policy costs for that liability.
I suspect that an honest evaluation will result in a DBA being more than adequate.
Well, along with the good general liability & umbrella policy you'll need regardless.

I will be going LLC to limit liability. Assumed name will also be used (aka DBA). This isn't that complicated and an attorney is not necessary for this line of work Mr. Rational. I've done this in the past, but it's been a while so I was just looking for tips on how on where to get it done efficiently (service to use and state to incorporate). - Thanks
If you've done it in the past, you have a leg up. For people reading the thread who have not, I strongly suggest seeking a competent CPA who can inform on tax consequences and reporting requirements, as well as do or review the books for at least the first couple of years. Online may look inexpensive in comparison, but having a knowledgeable person to support you when challenged is worth every penny.
You do this sort of thing often.
Rather than add clarity to the discussion by introducing the missing "sole proprietorship"
you just throw a wrench into the gears.

OP: I'll stick by my earlier point that you probably don't need more than the SP
(and the same insurance policies you need regardless).

I clarified your inaccurate post. If you want something more, just ask.
