I make head wraps for kids that cost around $3 to make and I sell them for $8. I was wondering if I was to get my head wraps into local stores and/ or big chain stores what would be the positives and negatives? Cost? Split %? inventory? time and effort?
Positives the more name recognition the more potential sales and profits.
Negative would be the larger the chain the more they will expect deep discounts on your price. They will buy an item from you at a price they negotiate based on what they feel they can or want to sell it for
Another negative is you will need to be able to deliver the quantity they expect at the time they expect it. If there are equal competitors, who can deliver on time, packaged the way they want, will be one of the major consideration on buying from you or not.
The question of time and effort is not something we can answer because we don't know if you're making these at home in the spare bedroom or contracting with a factory in China who can pump them out by the thousands.
thanks for the information and yes my products are handmade at home. I figured if I did get picked up by a big chain store I would need bulk and I think the only way I could afford to sell it and still make profit at the moment is overseas in China.
