Only chick fil a and in n out burger are willing to pay their employees a decent wage so the ccustomer
service just keeps getting worse at the other fast food places. I have definitely noticed this over the last few years.
And don’t think kiosks are going to help. I went to my first McDonald’s that only has order kiosks, which were fantastic to use, but the wait to get the food (they bring it out to the table) was one of the longest I have ever waited at a McDonald’s.
There's a McDonald's near my job that has those kiosks. Food is usually out within 5 minutes. The drive thru also moves quickly despite being in a very busy area. Yet, the McDonald's near my home is one of the slowest ones I've been to. I sat in the drive thru the other day for at least 15 minutes. And that's not an uncommon occurrence. Some are better run than others.

But five minutes is not fast for fast food, at least it used to not be.
for almost half my life you walk in tell them what you want, give them money and they handed you food.
The exception being the idiots who would hold up the line with a "grocery list".
And once they rattled off their(long drawn out, hold this, extra that) order the line would speed back up as they waited for their food(often complaining that the 15 people that came after them already got their food lol).
Last summer we drove from Jacksonville FL to Charlotte NC to evacuate from Hurricane Irma. We stopped for lunch at a McDonald's in South Carolina right off I-95 in a small town. I imagine it was busier than usual for them (probably much more traffic going North on I-95 than usual) but it took 20+ minutes to get our order inside. There were probably only 5-6 customers ahead of me, and my order was nothing unusual -- chicken sandwich combo and burger combo. Never waited that kind of time at any fast-food place. I'll give them a break and assume they had no idea how much business they'd get from Northbound Florida traffic that day. Saturday afternoon may have normally been a totally dead time for them. Otherwise, they get the award for worst McDonald's ever.
You could have gone inside. AND likely been out in waaay less time. Using the drive-thru was your choice. So who (m) should you really be mad at. (Forgive ending the question with "at."

Last night after an hour in traffic for an appointment in another town it was past usual dinner time for us so we were starving and decided to go to Arby's. It was fast fast food. We ordered, got our drinks, and had barely sat down when they called us to pick up our order. Of course, it was not very busy, the few people already there had their food and were eating,
no one in front of us in line to order.
It stopped being 'fast' when they took the display of ready to go things away.
Of course the breadth of the menu was more limited then too.
Kids: There was a time when the customer could see that regular cheeseburgers were ready
but the combo whatever's were not. We would order the regular cheeseburgers and leave.
idk but maybe it should be slower considering they mess up my order about 40-50% of the time.
