Off the bat know of many homeless/dumpster divers that aren't going to be happy.

Likely also won't sit well with those who camp out at SB all day and treat the place like their own living room, senior/after school center, or We Work space.

Starbucks has some other purpose?

And you think the crowd is going to go away because they stop selling newspapers? Now... if they got rid of free wifi...

Where did I say people would avoid hanging out at SB once newspapers were gone?

Reading newspapers like using the lavatories are part of the amenities of couch surfing at SB. Of course people will still hang out, they don't really have many other options do they? Just that one less freebie will be available.

Subject: SB to stop selling newspapers.
Text: Boy, that will chase away the permanent crowd.

Did I miss something?

I just wish they had a separate line for people who want to order, you know, coffee vs customers who want to order some complicated fru-fru drink such as a half caf, half decaf, triple whip mocha lite crappuccino made with 1/3 almond milk and 1/3 soy milk, 1/3 goats milk and a lemon twist, shaken not stirred...

I’ve seen exactly ONE customer pay for a newspaper, and I go to Starbucks A LOT. I always thought that display of the NYT made the place look intellectual and classy.

There's a hundred places around to get a decent cup of black (and IMVHO, SB is not one of them). You lie down with the fru-fru crowd, you get up with whipped cream on your... cup.

Right? Sounds like it was a bad decision to try.

New York (CNN Business)Starbucks will stop selling newspapers and a number of food items to declutter stores and remove products customers aren't buying.
